Hi There, I'm Sharyn aka Shaz and here's my story

As a mother, you want your child to be born perfect, but in my mother’s case, I was born with a birth defect a severe club foot that required surgery at 3 months of age. My mother was told that I would have trouble walking, need special shoes, would probably develop early onset arthritis and have problems in my ankle, hip, and back.  A lot of that has been true, I do walk with a limp, and have muscle wastage in my calf muscle, and my knee and ankle are not quite in alignment, but I have never let that hold me back. 

Throughout my journey I have never let myself think that I can’t do something, I have always given everything a go, I might not have been very good at, but I gave it a go.  The path I chose lead me from white water kayaking to the health and fitness industry which I fell in love with and still work in today.  

 I have found myself working in an industry where perfection is valued above all else; where Instagram highlights incredible, young, body beautiful, athletic and then there is me. In the eyes of the fitness industry, I’m far from perfect. But that didn’t stop me; even after the birth of my daughter and being 30kgs overweight I still got up and taught my group exercises classes (aerobics in those days) in front of hundreds of people each week.  I think back at all the times I was judged and shamed and the thing that has kept me going all these years is believing that I’m making a difference in someone’s life. This belief has allowed me to connect, inspire and motivate so many people over the years and I feel very privileged to have this amazing opportunity every day. 

The fitness industry has changed in 30 years, and not just because of social media and the glamorisation of being “active”. I have noticed in my clients and in my own life a desire to embrace not only health and fitness but wellness. Our lives have become more challenging, we have higher expectations of ourselves, we are overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, burnt out, as well as emotionally and mentally fatigued and this is leading us to poor health choices. We miss our exercise sessions because we are tired, and instead find ourselves eating ice cream or drinking to make us feel better or at least feel something, this is not a sustainable lifestyle. 

Seeing this in myself I knew it had to stop, and that I needed to make some changes. After doing 12months of study, in health and wellness coaching and my own self-coaching, I believe I can help make a difference on a deeper level and help you become more aware and understand how your emotions and thoughts impact how you act in your life. I want to help you make long-lasting changes that will nourish our minds and body and lead us to a better level of health, fitness, and wellness.
